Hiwassee College FFA recently won first place with their parade float in the Loudon County Christmas Parade. For their float, the members voted to design a “Country Christmas Wonderland” snow-covered log cabin. Some of their decorations included a Christmas tree with hand-made garlands, a rocking chair and a wood-burning stove. Christmas lights were also added to the tree and roof of the cabin’s porch. During the parade, the students enjoyed throwing out candy to the kids and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas to the large crowd that lined the streets of downtown Loudon.
Melissa Ward, Hiwassee College Instructor of Agriculture and Animal Science, stated, “As the FFA advisor, I am really proud of all the students’ hard work and dedication to our FFA chapter and look forward to working with them on more projects in the spring.”
The Loudon Merchants and Property Owners Association judged the floats on creativity, crowd appeal, and best use of lights and theme. For their efforts, the Hiwassee College FFA was awarded a check for $250.
