Hiwassee College will hold its annual Scholarship Gala on October 6, 2012 at the Cherokee Country Club located in Knoxville, Tennessee.  The theme for this year’s event will be “Those Were the Days.”  The Chessmen are scheduled to entertain and will be performing a variety of music from the decades of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.  Proceeds from the Gala will be used to provide scholarships for promising students.  Get your tickets now by calling 423-420-1222 or purchase online.

Founded in 1849 and chartered by the State of Tennessee in 1850, it has always been the purpose of Hiwassee College to give young people an opportunity to combine Christianity and scholarship in a thoroughly practical way.  Hiwassee’s faith-centered education sets it apart from other institutions.  It is accredited with the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS), providing students with both financial aid and a faith-centered education.  These are traditions that continue to this day.  Hiwassee College offers programs of study leading to both Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees.

The majority of Hiwassee College students come from the Appalachian areas of Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia.  Most are the first in their families to attend college.  Over 80 percent of Hiwassee College students receive financial aid.  As the College focuses on its distinctive vision and mission, the funds raised from the Scholarship Gala will have a direct impact on the lives of young persons as they pursue their educational goals and prepare to take their place as citizens who live productive lives and give back to the community.
