Position Announcements: Hiwassee College

Assistant Professor of Biology: Full-time

We are seeking an energetic Biology faculty member, to help us build a 4 year Bachelors of Science degree program in Biology, focused on student learning outcomes, student success, and engages in dynamic teaching modalities. The candidate can expect a regular course load of three to four courses per semester that consists of general biology courses, as well as microbiology, anatomy and physiology and an upper division course in his or her field. Creativity and innovation is strongly encouraged and supported. Position is open until filled. To Begin August, 2017.

Minimum qualifications: A Ph.D. in Biology or related field and a minimum of 18 credit hours in related graduate level course work. A minimum of three years of teaching at the college level is required. Graduate students that are ABD will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications: Five plus years in higher education, experience with curriculum and program development, experience in student learning outcomes based assessment and experience with accreditation standards.

Director of Financial Aid

The Director of Financial Aid reports directly to the Vice President for Business Affairs and is a member of the President’s Cabinet. As a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Director of Financial Aid shares in the formulation and implementation of a vision for the institution which reflects the College’s commitment to providing a high quality education in a Christian environment. The Director of Financial Aid is expected to work closely with all members of the College community in a cooperative and collaborative manner in the formation of fiscal and administrative policies of the College and in the implementation of those policies. The Director of Financial Aid must respect and support the collegial nature of decision making appropriate to a higher education community.

General Authority: Under the direction of the Vice President for Business Affairs, the Director of Financial Aid is the chief financial aid officer of the College.

Responsibilities: The Director of Financial Aid represents the College in matters associated with the Financial Aid Program and is responsible for the supervision, direction, policy development, budget development and evaluation of the following units reporting directly to him/her:

 

  • Financial Aid Office – Provides leadership and hands-on direction to the Financial Aid Office including all personnel.
  • Students – Determines student eligibility for federal and state aid programs.  Works with the Director of Admissions to determine eligibility for institutional student assistance programs. Maintains student’s financial assistance and scholarship records. Supervises the Federal Work-Study Program. Administrates Inceptia Default Prevention/Aversion program. Maintains confidentiality of student’s financial information and records.
  • Institution – Develops financial aid strategies for the effective utilization of financial aid funds. Provides information to all constituents of the College to keep them informed and knowledgeable concerning student financial aid policies, procedures, trends, and opportunities.
  • Audit – Assists with audit preparation and provides information to the auditors as requested.
  • Federal and State Agencies – Interprets and implements federal, state, and institutional student financial assistance regulations and policies. Makes application for federal student financial assistance funds and administers the total federal student aid program. Responsible for required federal, state, and institutional reports as well as others as requested.
  • Veterans Affairs – Coordinates the implementation of V.A. policies and procedures, including all required reports. Counsels qualified students on the policies and procedures of the Veterans Administration.
  • Performs other duties as necessary and/or assigned by the Vice President for Business Affairs or the President of the College.

Residence Hall Director

The Office of Student Affairs is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and responsible leader to serve as a Residence Hall Director for our female dorm, Allison Hall. Reporting to the Director of Student Affairs, the Residence Hall Director (RD) supports Student Affairs in its mission to create an exceptional on-campus living experience. The RD trains, supervises, and evaluates a team of Resident Assistants, facilitates weekly one-on-one and team meetings, oversees programming initiatives, responds to student concerns and policy violations, and upholds all college policies.

This is a part-time, live-in position requiring day, evening, and weekend responsibilities. RDs must hold at least six hours of office availability per week with the majority of hours from 5PM-7PM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Staff Development

  1. Assist RAs in creating a community that is conducive to their students’ academic and personal success
  2. Facilitate weekly 1:1 meetings and RA team meetings
  3. Be available, approachable, and accessible within the residence hall to residents and RA team
  4. Uphold all College and Housing policies and procedures
  5. Serve as a Hearing Officer for low-level cases, as assigned by the Director of Student Affairs

On-Call Responsibilities

  1. Participate in an on-call rotation with other Student Affairs staff
  2. Respond to all emergency situations in a calm and responsible manner
  3. RD-on-Call hours are from 5PM to 9AM on weekdays and 24 hours on weekends and holidays
  4. While On-Call, RDs must be within a 20-minute radius from campus and be able to respond to any incident
  5. Document all incidents in a responsible and timely manner

Student Conduct

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of, and show consistency and thoroughness in defining College policies and procedures
  2. Ensure staff members are appropriately confronting and documenting behavioral issues and concerns
  3. Serve as the hall’s conduct officer in consultation with the Director of Student Affairs
  4. Meet with students alleged to be in violation of Residence Hall policies, adjudicate cases, and sanction 
  5. Maintain conduct records by maintaining accurate files

Advising

  1. Have a great awareness of and sensitivity to cultural norms, diversity, and multiculturalism
  2. Exhibit effective listening and mediation skills
  3. Be visible, available, and approachable to the student staff and area residents
  4. Mediate conflicts between roommates when necessary
  5. Role model appropriate behavior at all times

Administrative Responsibilities

  1. In collaboration with the Director of Student Affairs, develop and facilitate training sessions during August and January RA Training
  2. Oversee and evaluate all residence hall programs, activities, and events
  3. Conduct thorough weekly walk-through of building(s)
  4. Complete a minimum of 6 office hours per week at a minimum of 3 weekdays per week 
  5. All other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Education: A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience working in higher education; Experience in residence life or a closely related enrollment management function.

License: Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Other: Night and weekend hours are required; the ability/willingness to participate in on-call rotation is required.

The candidate can expect a regular course load of four to five courses per semester that includes finance, management and accounting courses at both the introductory and upper division levels. Creativity and innovation is strongly encouraged and supported. Position to start August, 2017. Application review will begin January 15, 2017 and will remain open until filled.

Assistant Professor of Christian Leadership and College Chaplain: Full-time

We are seeking an energetic individual invested in the scholarly pursuit of Christian education at a Methodist affiliated College. The person would be responsible for finishing the development of our Christian leadership program set to begin in the Fall semester of 2017 and teaching both introductory and advanced religion courses for the College. Additionally, the candidate would be responsible for the identification and recruitment of students into the Christian Leadership program.

The candidate would also serve as College Chaplain, taking on the responsibility of weekly chapel services, Christian student Movement, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and student advising and counseling. The College is committed to the development, success and enhancement of spiritual life for the campus community.

 Minimum qualifications: A Master’s in Divinity and a minimum of 18 credit hours in related graduate level coursework. A minimum of three years of teaching at the college level is required. Graduate students that are ABD will be considered.

 Preferred Qualifications: A Ph.D. in theology or related field, five plus years in higher education, experience with curriculum and program development, experience in student learning outcomes based assessment and experience with accreditation standards.

 Salary will be commensurate with demonstrated experience. Start date can be negotiated but a March 1, 2017 date is preferred.
