United Methodist Church-Related Assistance
Hiwassee College is affiliated with the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. As such, there are specific scholarship programs available to students who are members of the United Methodist Church, and additional scholarships to students who are members of a United Methodist Church within the Holston Conference. For specific information regarding the scholarships listed as well as other scholarship opportunities contact the Financial Aid Office of the College at (423) 442-1221.
FRESHMAN CHURCH SCHOLARSHIP
The Freshman Church Scholarship is available to first time students who are members of a Holston Conference United Methodist Church. The scholarship is valued at $1,000.00. The pastor of the student’s church must complete a Certification of Church Membership. This form can be obtained from the Financial Aid Office or the Admission Office of the College.
HOLSTON CONFERENCE GRANTS
The Holston Conference Foundation and the Holston Conference Colleges, Inc. provide grants of $1,000.00. These grants are available to students who are members of a Holston Conference United Methodist Church. Students who demonstrate academic proficiency and financial need are eligible for consideration. To apply, the student should submit a Certification of Church Membership and an Application for Holston Conference Grants to the Financial Aid Office of the College. These forms and applications can be obtained by contacting the Financial Aid Office.
MINISTER’S DEPENDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
Dependents of Holston Conference United Methodist ministers or other full-time employees of churches and agencies of Holston Conference are eligible for grants of one-half tuition. These grants are renewable for the second year of study for students who meet the satisfactory academic progress standards relating to institutional scholarships.
NATIONAL UNITED METHODIST SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship assistance in the amount of $1,000.00 is available to United Methodist students regardless of their Conference affiliation. The United Methodist Scholarship and Loan Programs are a church wide educational service providing scholarships and loans to help supplemental the financial needs of today’s students. These programs are administered through the Office of Loans and Scholarships of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (BHEM) of the United Methodist Church in Nashville, Tennessee. UNITED METHODIST LEADERSHIP SCHOLARS
The United Methodist Leadership Scholars (UMLS) program is sponsored by United Methodist Churches in the southeast and the colleges and universities listed below. UMLS is supported by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) and the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation (UMHEF).
This Scholarship program is designed to encourage active United Methodist students to attend a United Methodist-related college or university by offering up to $3,000 in scholarship funds. These sponsoring colleges and universities intentionally affirm students as God’s children through the development of the whole student — intellectually, by developing leadership capability, and growing spiritually through programs that focus on the individual student.
